Placement Description

Provide concise, accurate and objective language assistance in both English and Bengali languages for Ontario Works applicants, clients, and staff at Toronto Employment Social Services (TESS) office locations. TESS staff will be present to guide and support all interactions during the volunteer placement.

 Major Activities

  • Provide English / Bengali language assistance, in person and/or over the telephone, to English / Bengali speaking clients and staff, in local TESS offices.
  • Help in the Access and Resource Centres (ARC) to support clients and assist clients and caseworkers, during scheduled in office meetings, by providing language assistance with general inquiries, explaining information in documents and online, and with applications and service planning appointments.
  • Support clients to use computers and to find information online.

 

Qualifications

 

  1. Fluent speaking, reading, and writing skills in both English and Bengali. 
  2. Professional attitude, customer service and strong interpersonal skills.
  3. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  4. Good judgement and discretion when dealing with personal and confidential information.
  5. Able to use computer for e-mail correspondence and internet navigation.
  6. High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
  7. Resident of the City of Toronto and in receipt of Ontario Works (OW) or Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP).

The applicant pool from this job posting will be used for the Job Incentive Program (JIP). The JIP learning/volunteer opportunities are withing Toronto Employment and Social Services (TESS). Successful candidates and participants may also qualify for additional employment related financial benefits to support participation.

 

Days per Week

 

Up to three (3) days a week, maximum 70 hours per month

Hours: Weekdays, between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm

Duration of placement:  Three (3) months with the possibility of extension.
