Job Description

Join the award-winning Toronto Public Service as a Research Trainee, providing research support and assistance as part of a Work Based Learning Program for various programs, initiatives and projects.

Major Responsibilities:
Your primary responsibilities as a Research Trainee will be varied. Specifically, you will:
- Assist with compiling and consolidation of data for others to analyze/review
- Documents findings. Inputs/retrieves/updates/maintains data
- Assist with organizing and presenting data collected
- Assist others with drafting documents, bulletins etc. and data analysis
- Assist in maintaining data/statistics
- Assist with various office functions
- Support with various office functions: Answers calls, provides general information, takes messages and directs inquiries to appropriate staff to answer questions/handle requests
- May required to collect data by distributing questionnaires, visiting sites, going door to door, asking participants/groups for information/opinions etc.
- May travels to various locations and/or attends special events to provide support/on-site assistance and distribute information
- May assist with packing, loading, lifting, moving, delivering and unpacking supplies, displays etc.
Key Qualifications:
Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:
- Experience conducting and/or assisting with research projects involving collecting data, summarizing, analyzing and reporting on research findings or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) to prepare reports, presentations and communications materials.
You must also have:
- Strong data management skills
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills, ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and work cooperatively within a team
- Good understanding of research ethics, including issues related to privacy and confidentiality
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as a member of a team
- Ability to provide excellent customer service to clients and members of the public
Notes:
IT background is an asset
Knowledge on compliance, audits, governance and standardization is an asset.
Knowledgeable/experience with CISCO Webex, Power BI and Power Query would be an asset
